Europass acquires the Chilean Food and consolidates its productive expansion in Latin America

Europass buys Alicomer to start its local production in Chile. The operation strengthens its presence in the Latin American market for mother-mass bread and strengthens its expansion.

The multinational European bakery has taken a fundamental step in its internationalization strategy. On Tuesday, the company confirmed that it successfully closed the acquisition of Alicomer, a renowned Chilean company specializing in the production of high-end breads. With a strong focus on the use of mother mass and slow fermentation processes, the transandine firm had positioned itself as an undisputed reference in his country, capturing the attention of the food industry giants. Although the exact amount of the transaction is kept under strict corporate reserve, the movement sends a clear signal about the ambitions of the European group on the continent.

A strategic leap to the Latin American market

This purchase represents much more than a simple expansion of portfolio; it marks the official start of the local production of Europass in Chilean territory. So far, the presence of many multinationals in the region was dependent on complex import schemes, but the decision to acquire an operating plant and a consolidated brand shows a long-term bet.

The Latin American market is experiencing a paradigm shift in consumption habits. Increasingly, buyers demand large-scale craft products, looking for clean labels, natural ingredients and processes that respect traditional fermentation times. In this context, the infrastructure and prestige that Alicomer already has installed are an invaluable asset to overcome the entry barriers and quickly connect with the South American consumer.

The differential value of the brand Bread of Origin

One of the main attractions of this commercial operation is the incorporation of the brand Pan de Origen, the flagship of Alicomer. This product line has a highly consolidated position in Chilean gondola, dominating the category of rustic bakery. Its catalogue includes from crunchy crust cyabatta and alveolated miga, to functional breads designed to respond to new trends in nutrition and well-being.

The secret behind the success of this line lies in its fidelity to the methods of classical panification. The use of active mother mass and long rest not only improve the taste and aroma profile of the bread, but also increase its digestibility and life in a natural way, without relying on chemical additives. For Europass, inheriting this local “know-how” and its faithful customer portfolio is a strategic shortcut of enormous commercial value.

Synergy between European technology and Chilean commercial development

Since the multinational leadership, they have stressed that the integration of both businesses is fully complementary. None of the parties compete with each other; on the contrary, they are enhanced. On the one hand, the European firm injects its huge financial muscle, its advanced technological knowledge in the ultra-freezing of mass and an unparalleled capacity of scale on a global level. On the other hand, the Chilean company provides the necessary commercial development on the ground, an oiled distribution network and a deep and emphatic understanding of the tastes of the local consumer.

This synergy will allow the star products of Alicomer to eventually cross the borders of Chile and reach other markets in the region under the logistic umbrella of Europass, while the Chilean market will benefit from the innovations that the parent company develops in its European laboratories.

The vision for the future from the leadership

Business optimism was reflected in the statements of the company’s executive president, Jordi Gallés. In analysing the impact of the purchase, the manager explained that the operation directly strengthens the historical commitment of the firm to constant innovation and high quality standards at each stage of production.

For the multinational girl table, the productive landing in Chile works as a real beach head. According to Gallés himself, this movement not only points to the international growth of corporation in the short term, but opens up a range of new opportunities and strategic alliances to continue to grow, invest and expand its commercial operations throughout Latin America in the years to come.
