The Chinese artificial intelligence firm DeepSeek is moving forward in the negotiations to achieve a funding round of at least 80 billion yuan (approximately $12 billion). The operation is led by the technological giant Tencent Holdings and the CATL battery manufacturer, as Bloomberg revealed from sources close to the process.

The company’s initial goal was to capture about 50 billion yuan; however, the strong interest of the investment funds exceeded the company’s forecasts. Due to this strong demand, the total amount awarded could be up to 100 billion yuan as the final closure of the capital section is structured.

High-performance competition and low operating costs

DeepSeek managed to position itself as one of the most prominent software development laboratories in China after the launch of its open source model R1 in early 2025. The advance of the firm continued this year with the presentation of its flagship line V4, which collected favourable assessments in the global industry for equating in performance with developments of US competitors such as

OpenAI and Anthropic.

The main differentiator of the platform is its operational efficiency. The architecture of your models allows you to perform complex tasks of language processing and data analysis at a fraction of the financial and energy cost that require the tools of your direct rivals in the international market.

Estimates prior to this new capital injection placed the company’s market valuation at around $74 billion. The entry of these new resources will strengthen the firm’s infrastructure capacity at a time when financial analysts closely monitor their next steps towards a possible initial public offer (OPI).

The financial consolidation of the startup reaffirms the drive of Asian technological groups to lead the global career of artificial intelligence through high-performance solutions with optimized costs.
