U.S. imposes sanctions on International Criminal Court, warns Blonde

For decades, Republicans and Democrats rejected the idea that the International Criminal Court (ICC) had the power to prosecute U.S. citizens, military or political leaders, as the United States never joined the Court and has stated that it does not need or want it.

Background of the American opposition to the ICC

The so-called globalist “experts,” located outside the US, have pressed for the ICC to expand its scope, including the prosecution of military personnel who defend the country, Border Patrol agents and elected leaders who, according to them, guarantee national security.

President Donald Trump has reiterated that he will not allow the ICC to prosecute Americans.

Sanctions announced by the United States

Today, the US imposes sanctions on the International Criminal Court, prohibiting any transaction with the entity and seeking to cut its resources to paralyze its operational capacity.

The Government has noted that, for more than a year, it has reported the basic gestures of good faith that it expected from the Court, postponing the designation of sanctions for respect for its international relations and in the hope that the ICC would change course or be contained by States parties.

However, neither the ICC nor the States parties have taken significant steps to address American concerns.

Objective of the diplomatic measure and expectations

Despite the perceived inaction, the US remains hopeful of a diplomatic solution and has structured the sanction to provide States parties with the opportunity to negotiate and present a solution that will address their concerns.

If these efforts are not successful, the Government will continue to adjust its actions accordingly.

Statements by Marco Rubio

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the message is clear: “The United States and its people are not subject to the jurisdiction of the ICC.”

“Both parties agree on this, but only President Trump is determined to take the necessary steps to end this threat once and for all,” Rubio added.

“Either the ICC puts an end to their threats, or we will put an end to the ICC.”
