Deployment of resources and units sent

SOUTHCOM commander, General Francis L. Donovan, ordered the immediate deployment of resources to support the Panamanian authorities and United States teams involved in the response and assessment of damage.

The means sent include rotary wing aircraft of the Bravo Joint Task Force, personnel of the Panama Joint Security Cooperation Group and air transport capabilities to mobilize specialized personnel and essential supplies.

Aims of assistance and coordination with Panama

The deployed forces will provide mobility and logistical support services to United States officials working with Panamanian authorities in the assessment of damage, the location of injured persons and the distribution of vital assistance to affected communities.

The South Command noted that it will continue to coordinate closely with the State Department and the authorities of Panama to build on the logistical and operational capabilities of the United States Armed Forces, with the aim of accelerating relief operations.

Statements by United States authorities

“On behalf of the United States Southern Command, our hearts are with the people of Panama after yesterday’s earthquake,” General Donovan said. “Thanks to our deep and growing partnership, we are already on the ground providing immediate help to our friends. We are proud to be shoulder to shoulder with them in this moment of adversity.”
