Since its creation, the Committee has been supported by national political figures, such as former President Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera.

Testimonials and interviews of the documentary

In the first delivery, the team of Martí Noticias interviewed Cubans who have recently arrived in Uruguay and established their home there; it is estimated that in 2022 more than twenty thousand Cubans arrived, and the figure has continued to grow in 2026, positioning Uruguay as one of the main South American destinations for Cuban emigration.

The “Jaime Mario Trobo Freedom Prize” was given to the member Juan Martín Rodríguez of the White Party, who has supported the Committee since its foundation; the recognition was given by Josefina Trobo, daughter of the deceased legislator.

Martín Elgue said that, although the Committee was born with Uruguayan nationals, today the majority of its members are exiled Cubans who publicly face the Uruguayan left still defending the Havana regime.

At the close, artists Alex Hidalgo and Yunier Santos gave Martin Elgue a picture of Martí in recognition of his solidarity with Cubans in Uruguay.
